10 things to do this spring
Spring, a time for new beginnings. A perfect time to get outdoors more, to breathe in the air and the smell of newly budded flowers, to take a stroll along the beach or get cooking again with fresh, local produce. Here are some ideas of things to do this spring:
Grow something – You don’t need to be a gardener for this one. My son and I recently bought some Greenbelt Microgreens lettuce that comes in a flower pot. We set it up in a hanging planter in front of our kitchen window and water it once a day.
Visit a farm – Farms in the springtime are a good time for new beginnings.
Flowers – I had the chance to go to Fleurs de Villes this month, an initiative in three Canadian cities to get local florists to create a floral design on store manaquins. It was breathtaking and inspiring. http://fleursdevilles.com/ . The Tulip Festival in Ottawa is also a not-to-be-missed event.
Bike ride – There is nothing more freeing than that feeling of the wind across your face during a great bike ride.
Make a bird feeder or bird treats – This one is top of my list this year since making homemade bird treats is something I’ve never done and our little one loves bird. Here’s an idea of what we’re hoping to make: http://littleinspiration.com/2013/04/spring-kid-craft-birdseed.html
Support your local farmer’s market – They’re coming back soon. Ottawa is a great place to find local produce and support our farmers.
Get back into your favorite outdoor activities – Go hiking, get into some water activities, or take a stroll along the beach
Try something new – Whether it’s a new sport, a class, getting crafty, this year could be all about finding something new that you love.
Escape – See my previous blog post for a little inspiration. Find your own escape.
Make homemade popsicles – I love homemade popsicles. A favorite of ours right now is peaches, bananas and coconut milk. It’s pretty dreamy.
