It’s been almost a year since Angela Liddon released her second cookbook, Oh She Glows Everyday. Almost a year, but there is so much to discover in this whole foods cookbook one page at a time. If you haven’t heard of Angela Liddon and the Oh She Glows blog before, this is the time for some inspiration in the kitchen (http://ohsheglows.com). As I said to a client recently, don’t be fooled by the cinnamon rolls recipe on the front page, this IS a healthy cooking blog. This book, and her previous one – Oh she glows – have inspired my friends, colleagues and family; it’s become the go-to cookbook for many of the pot luck dishes we bring to our get-togethers. Angela has an amazing way to take the most nutrient-rich foods and turn them into a spectacular meal that makes you come back for more time and time again.
Her first cookbook left us with some favorite meals and snacks that are still part of our weekly menu – quick and easy chana masala, overnight oats, chocolate chip cookie dough energy balls – while her second book that I’m reviewing now shares even more recipes that are focused on easy preparation and the best ingredients. Many of her recipes provide gluten-free options and nut-free alternatives, and all are vegan (although you can easily throw in some fish or chicken to most of the main meals if you please). This recipe book is worth the cost – you will have recipes to try for well over a year since there are over a 100 in one book alone.
The magical ice cream smoothie bowl – which surprisingly has no added sugar and is sweetened instead with frozen bananas – is probably one of the ones we make most often. It’s definitely our son’s favorite; for me, it’s a tie between this one and the chocolate dreams protein smoothie bowl. The black bean sweet potato veggie burger recipe is amazing on a hot summer day and I’m still discovering all the amazing salads. The almond butter sauce at the end of her book is amazing to top off a rice noodle stir fry. The dessert recipes use mostly maple syrup and agave nectar, and I’m looking forward to pumpkin season again because I fell in love last October with the pillow pumpkin cookie recipe and the pumpkin cupcakes which are so decadent although so simple to make. And her Peanut butter lover's chocolate tart became the final chapter to a fun get-together with friends a few months ago with very high reviews from everyone. This cookbook is not one to miss.
